In a rather soppy version of the Robin Hood story, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, the outstanding moment is when, the brilliant Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham declares “Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings and CALL OFF CHRISTMAS”
Drastic in the context that he was frustrated that Maid Marion had made it abundantly clear that she had no intention in marrying him!
It seems that many if not all companies have the same opinion about Christmas, in these challenging times. Although they have a much more reasonable excuse! So, what can they possibly do that will replace their annual do!?
Not necessarily easy, as no matter what is on offer it will not be the same as a face to face event. But different doesn’t mean bad, it just requires a bit more imagination and a bit of hard work on internal communication. This year, what is available will be in the virtual world.
There are lots of quizzes and virtual magicians or cooking workshops and such like. However, from listening to our clients they have had enough of the cheap and cheerful (which is good news for us) and that participation is not as high as they would like.
There are 2 reasons for this.
1. Poor promotion internally of their virtual team building activity.
What’s the solution, quite simply, explain the benefits of taking part to their colleagues and how the activity will have an impact, in that it will be fun and create valuable team spirit. Also invest in a quality product that aligns with your goals and objectives.
2. Poor choice of activity. It must be entertaining and professionally run. Colleagues value their time! Yet another Zoom event does not inspire them. Put some effort in and find an experienced quality supplier and get a proper ROI, whilst motivating your team.
Simple searches on google for Team building Online, virtual team building, or Christmas online will offer up some ideas.
